Artist Bio

Doug Barr

While Doug Barr and the Blast continue to perform and record, Doug has added a new feather to his cap as he runs for Councillor in his Tay Valley Township.  Having resided in the Canadian Arctic these last four years, Doug is glad to be home in his forest paradise and eager to get involved' locally in his community.  Doug stands for Environment, Farmers, Local Grown Food, Fiscal Accountability and much more.  Wish him well in his new endevour.

Born in the Ottawa Valley Doug was raised near Toronto, completed eight years of Royal Conservatory on Piano, moved into Pop music with his Uncle's beat up old guitar, jumped into Rock 'n Roll at 15 and never looked back.  After numerous bands, graduating Humber College as an Arranger and Composer and touring the Ontario Club circuit, Doug's path took an unexpected turn ... into children's music.

During this time he formed his own record label and publishing company - Lowansa Records - wrote, produced and recorded 4 world class children's albums, toured across Canada and has had many of those 72 songs 'covered' by the Children's luminaries of the day.  Storytelling being a mainstay in Doug's song lyrics, he branched out into Scriptwriting for film and television selling a storyline to Paramount's Star Trek Voyager series.

His first love has always been original, lyric-based rock music.  Influenced by The Doobie Brothers, The Eagles, Clapton, Dire Straits and others, Doug's self-produced, latest work points a songwriter's boney finger at the Corporate criminals, Eco-thieves and Bankster/Gangsters among us.  Watch Doug Barr & the Blast's latest Song on YouTube here: 'Arthur Gunn in 1915'.

 Other Loves:

• Walking in his 21 acre forest.

• Living Off Grid generating solar power.

• Building with Straw Bales.
